Your Family Has Support, Not Just Your Loved One
Hospice care is not only about managing physical symptoms. It is about walking alongside the whole family through one of the most emotionally complex seasons of life.
That is exactly what our medical social workers are here for.
At Golden Rule Hospice, your social worker is assigned to your family from the very first day of care. They are a consistent, trusted presence, not a one-time resource or a checkbox on a compliance form. They show up, check in, and stay engaged for as long as your family needs them.
Starting the conversation is the simplest step you can take today. Call us anytime at (470) 395-6567 or reach us online. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ready to answer your questions, walk through your loved one’s situation, and help you understand every option available. There is no cost to speak with us and no obligation to move forward.
What Your Social Worker Does
More Than Paperwork and Referrals
The role of a hospice social worker is sometimes misunderstood – reduced in people’s minds to filling out forms and making phone calls. Our social workers are clinically trained, deeply experienced professionals who do far more than that.
They sit with families in their hardest moments. They ask the questions that need to be asked. They help families find words for things that feel unspeakable. And they carry a calm, steady presence into situations that feel anything but calm.
The families we serve often tell us that their social worker became one of the most important people in their lives during this season – someone they did not know they needed until they
Working Alongside Your Full Care Team
Your social worker is an active member of Golden Rule Hospice’s interdisciplinary care team. They communicate regularly with your registered nurse, coordinate with your spiritual support worker on emotional and spiritual needs, and collaborate with the Medical Director when care plan decisions involve the whole family.
When one team member notices that a family member is struggling, the whole team responds. That is what coordinated, whole-person hospice care looks like in practice. Learn more about our full care services
Frequently Asked Questions
Is social work support available for family members who don’t live nearby?
Yes. Social workers can connect with family members by phone and, when possible, coordinate in-person visits around family availability.
What if we need help with something practical, like finances or caregiving resources?
That is exactly what your social worker is there for. They are familiar with local and national resources for financial assistance. If a need exists, your social worker will help you find a way to address it.
Does social work support continue after my loved one passes?
Yes. Bereavement support is part of the hospice benefit and extends to family members after the patient passes.
